The Heppel & Ettlich is a private theater in Munich 's Schwabing district . It was founded in 1976 by the two native Berliners Henry (Henni) Heppel and Wolfgang (Wolle) Ettlich in connection with a pub . After the original location and the pub were closed in the summer of 2009, games will continue in the rooms of the Schwabing Chamber Theater .

history

Heppel and Ettlich came to Munich from Berlin in 1968. From 1972 they worked as landlords in Schwabing. At the beginning of 1976 they took over the “Fäustle-Garten” in western Schwabing on Kaiserstraße; from then on, the bar with theater room operated under the name of the new operator. Lutz Neumann was involved in the theater management. The cabaret KEKK Kabarett & Engagierte Kleinkunst , which had already played in the Fäustle garden, stayed loyal to the bar. For almost twenty years, in addition to the theater, there were cinema screenings for children on Sunday mornings under the title KiKo - Schwabinger Children's Cinema . Under the motto “Rock 'again” the theater turned into a disco on some evenings .

After 33 years of operation in bars and theaters, the “Heppel & Ettlich” was closed at the end of July 2009 after the inventory - including many enamel advertising signs from the Heppels collection - had been auctioned to guests. In October 2009, Susanne Rohrer and Christiane Brammer opened a new theater with an adjoining pub, the Rohrer & Brammer , at the old location of the Heppel & Ettlich, where they had already performed together . due to disagreements with the catering partner, this successor had to be closed again in May 2010.

Heppel's original plan to continue theater operations in the rooms of Theater44 failed in spring 2009. Another venue was later found: Since the end of October 2009, Heppel & Ettlich has been operating in the former rooms of the Schwabing Chamber Theater above the “Drugstore” bar Ettlich's management continued. In August 2018 the Ettlich theater was handed over to his employees Birgit Widhopf and Mario Lehlbach. After the renovation in August, operations resumed in September 2018. Since then, “Heppel & Ettlich” has increasingly relied on live music.

Performing artists

Several artists have started their careers at Heppel & Ettlich. Munich's former mayor Christian Ude also performed there with a cabaret program. The artists who appeared in the theater bar included Fredl Fesl , Doris Dörrie , Axel Hacke and Christoph Süß , among others .

Since 2013 Jason Seizer has been presenting guests there in his Jazz Salon in conversation or in musical dialogue.

Awards
