Gunna Wendt (born January 26, 1953 in Pattensen - Jeinsen ) is a German writer and exhibition organizer.

Life

Gunna Wendt already wrote poems and stories as a 12-year-old student, including the fairy tale Die Liederprinzessin and the drum king published in the Hannoversche Allgemeine in 1965 .

She attended the Helene Lange School in Hanover and after graduating from high school, studied sociology and psychology at the University of Hanover. In 1979 she completed her studies with a Magister (MA). Her studies focused on psychology, philosophy and the sociology of art. She wrote her master's thesis with Oskar Negt on the subject of Paula Modersohn-Becker. On the situation of an artist at the turn of the century in Germany .

Even then, she began to deal with the subject of biography . In the meantime she has published numerous biographies and portraits in which she focuses on the life and, above all, the work of the protagonists against the background of the historical context. Most of the time she approached women in this way; many of them have something to do with Munich and lived at the beginning of the 20th century. She bases her work on historical data, but weights the historically documented material: Her books are a mixture of novel and biography. Gunna Wendt sees a relationship to cinema and television in this approach and introduces the films Mishima - Ein in this context Life in four chapters by Paul Schrader , Molière (1978) by Ariane Mnouchkine and With my hot tears by Fritz Lehner . Ruth Klüger writes about Gunna Wendt's book Clara and Paula : "What is really new and captivating is the female view of female life and female ambition."

From 1984 to 1985, Wendt was an assistant director and dramaturge for various independent theater productions in Munich and Sommerhausen .

For ten years she was in charge of the literary telephone in Munich (1992–2002) and for two years she was the editor of the monthly “Literaturblatt München” (1994–1995) published by the cultural department .

From 1988 to 1996 she worked as an editor for the independent radio station Jazz Welle Plus in Munich . She conceived and moderated the weekly programs Literature Club and Culture before eight - Theater. In her literary club programs, she presented works of contemporary literature and held discussions with authors and translators. She conducted interviews with actors and directors about current theater events in Munich. In 1989 she was awarded the Radio Prize of the BLM (Bavarian State Center for New Media).

She began her work as an exhibition maker in 1995 in the Munich literature archive Monacensia: Disassembly and Assembly. Gert Hofmann's literary worlds. This was followed by further exhibitions in the Monacensia , in the Deutsches Theatermuseum Munich and on the island of Mainau . a. about Thomas Strittmatter , Helmut Qualtinger , Maria Callas as well as the dynasties of the Romanovs and the Bernadottes .

She is a member of GEDOK .

In February 2011 she was appointed to the circle of Munich tower scribes. In 2017 she was awarded the Schwabing Art Prize.

Gunna Wendt has lived in Munich since 1981.
