The Helene-Lange-Schule is a modern-language-natural science high school in Hanover . The school is located in the Linden-Mitte district .
history
The school was founded in 1884 as a boys' grammar school by the then city of Linden , because the city of Hanover closed its high schools for Lindener. In 1890 it was named after the wife of Kaiser Wilhelm II , Auguste Viktoria , in the Kaiserin-Auguste-Victoria-Gymnasium . The school quickly gained popularity from all over the surrounding area. On April 1, 1939, the school was converted from a boys 'school to a girls ' high school. At the instigation of the British military government , the name was to be changed after the Second World War , as the previous name appeared to be encumbered. After some controversy within the teaching staff, the school finally applied to be named after Helene Lange in the future. This happened on April 9, 1948, the 100th birthday of the women's rights activist and democrat. Until the introduction of co-education in 1971, it remained an all-girls school.
