Karl Reinecke-Altenau (born December 6, 1885 in Altenau ; † March 30, 1943 in Nauheim ; actually Karl Reinecke ) was a German painter, local poet and teacher from Upper Harz .

Life

Karl Reineicke was born in the early days of the German Empire . After graduating from school and training as a primary school teacher at the teachers' college in Alfeld (Leine) from 1900 to 1906, Reinecke was a teacher in Clausthal . In Goslar he took lessons from the British animal painter Louis Henry Weston Klingender . He then attended the art school in Berlin and in 1910 became a teacher in Schweidnitz (Silesia). In 1911 he married Gertrud Vahlbrauck. From 1912 to 1932 he was a drawing teacher at the Kaiserin Auguste Victoria Gymnasium (KAVG, today Helene-Lange-Schule ) in Hanover-Linden ; his apartment and studio were at Blumenauer Strasse 8.

In 1932 Reinecke resigned from school to live as a freelance artist in his hometown Altenau until 1938, while his family stayed in Hanover.

In May 1933, following a call from Reinecke, the Oberharzer Heimatbund was founded. At the Polsterberger Hubhaus between Clausthal-Zellerfeld and Altenau, Karl-Reinecke-Platz reminds of this. The Pentecost meeting of the Heimatbund took place there on Whit Monday every year until the 2010s. It was then moved to the Altenau spa park, where it still takes place today.
