The Polsterberger Hubhaus is a pump house above the Dammgraben in the Upper Harz , which is now used as a forest restaurant.

As part of the Upper Harz water shelf , it was built in the 18th century and served to raise the water from the dam ditch required for the Upper Harz mining in Clausthal to the level of the highest pond, the Hirschler pond. Without this “elevation”, the dam ditch delivered or delivers the water via ditches and watercourses to the Hausherzberger ponds or to the lower peacock pond (see also the middle peacock pond ). The problem, however, was that the most productive silver mines in the Upper Harz mining industry, the Caroline pit and the Dorothea pit, were located at a higher level and could only be supplied with power water from the Hirschler pond.

The driving force for the wooden lifting pump was obtained in the Polstertal below by two synthetic wheels . The impact water for these artificial bikes was brought in via the Hellertaler Graben from the Hellertal and from the Fortuner Teich via its Grundgraben, whereby, due to the friction losses and poor efficiency, a multiple of the impact water was certainly required to lift only a few liters of dam ditch water. This Art wheels transferred the strength gained over 260 m and 560 m long Art linkage of wood in the Hubhaus on the cushion mountain . In the lift house, the water from the dam ditch was pumped up 18 m and fed into the drinking ditch, through which it could then be fed either via the Hutthaler ditch and the Huttaler Widerwaage to the Hirschler pond, or via the Jägersbleeker watercourse to the Jägersbleeker pond. The Polsterberger Hubhaus served at the same time as an official residence for the lift master and the trench keeper, as well as a taproom.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the wooden construction was replaced by an electrically operated pump, the original of which is still available in the pump house on Graben. The building is now a listed building. It is operated exclusively as a restaurant and is a popular destination for hikers from Altenau and Clausthal-Zellerfeld . Like the nearby Sperberhaier Dammhaus , it is on Harzhochstrasse, Bundesstrasse 242 .
