The Polstertaler Zechenhaus is located in the Polstertal about three kilometers west of Altenau in the Upper Harz and is surrounded by a campsite .

history

Up to 1875, four stamp mills were operated in the Polstertal , in which the ore extracted from the surrounding pits was first crushed and then the ore-containing pieces were picked out . The Polstertaler Erzweg, via which the material from the Clausthal mines Dorothea and Caroline was transported to the stamping works and from there to the Altenauer Silberhütte , ran near the colliery house . The stamp mills were driven by the water of the Oker tributary Schwarzes Wasser , to ensure the water supply, the Polstertal pond , a little to the east of the colliery, was built as early as 1728 . In the stamp mills mainly children from the age of 10 worked.

In 1729, the then sovereign Duke August Wilhelm (ruling Duke of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel from 1714 to 1731) issued the order to build a small mine house for the Pochknaben working in the Polstertal so that they could warm up before and after work; in winter, the punks should be able to sleep here during the week to save them the arduous journey to their hometowns. The hut man (overseer) of the colliery and stamping works was also allowed to run a small inn and to entertain guests. After the stamping works were closed, this restaurant was preserved and is still in operation today. The Polstertal campsite is located on the site around the colliery house .
