The village, through which the Innerste flows from an upstream section close to the spring, is surrounded by meadows, forests and numerous Upper Harz ponds , including the marsh pond bordering the town . About two kilometers southwest of the town is the village Lerbach of Kuckholzklippe observation tower , from which a panorama in the resin and into the Harz mountains offers.

history

Buntenbock was located on the " Alte Harzstrasse " and was traditionally a village of carters who were mainly involved in mining. Livestock husbandry, especially horses and goats, also dates from this period. The place was first mentioned in 1615 in a tax certificate of the Principality of Grubenhagen .

On July 1, 1972, the previously independent community was incorporated into Clausthal-Zellerfeld.

Tourism has played an important role for the place since the end of the 19th century. Back then, the healthy "mountain air" was advertised for a relaxing spa stay in Buntenbock, today there are around 300 guest beds available. Buntenbock has not been a state-recognized health resort since the end of 2010 .

In 2015 the place celebrated its 400th anniversary. A local history was published for this purpose.
