The Bastesiedlung is a former lumberjack settlement between Bad Harzburg and Torfhaus in the Goslar district in the Harz region . It consists of about six residential buildings and had 18 residents in 2012.

The Baste forest workers' settlement is located north of the Torfhaus district on Bundesstraße 4 and comprises six timber-framed half-timbered houses that were built between 1949 and 1950. The buildings are under monument protection. Until the early 2000s, the settlement was completely owned by the Lower Saxony State Forests .

The Bastesiedlung belongs today within the mountain and university town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld to the locality Altenau-Schulenberg in the Upper Harz and represents an exclave in the non - parish Harz region. Until December 31, 2014 it was part of the mountain town of Altenau .

Since 2004, drinking water has been coming from Torfhaus via a 2000 m long pipe. The settlement cannot be reached via public roads. It is also not signposted and cannot be seen from the B 4 federal highway, which only passes by about 100 meters.
