The original blazer, named Blazer K5 , was manufactured in three model generations from mid-1969 to autumn 1994:

  • 1st generation from 1969 to 1972,
  • 2nd generation from 1972 to 1991 and
  • 3rd generation from 1991 to 1994.

In the fall of 1994, it was renamed Chevrolet Tahoe . This year the Tahoe was still identical to the previous years of the Blazer.

In September 1982, Chevrolet launched a smaller blazer called the Blazer S-10 . In the first year of production, 106,000 blazers were sold.

The Chevrolet Blazer was fundamentally revised in October 1994, both technically and visually. In 1998 there was another facelift.

At the same time, GM brought the GMC S-15 Jimmy onto the market. In 1991 the production of the Oldsmobile Bravada began. All three SUVs were based on the same platform, with the GMC Jimmy and the Chevrolet Blazer offering largely identical equipment options, while the Oldsmobile Bravada was settled in the higher-end segment.

From 1999 a higher quality equipment package was offered under the name TrailBlazer and in 2000 a new model with this name went on sale. While the three-door model continued to be offered on a regular basis, the five-door model could only be ordered as a fleet vehicle. In December 2005 the production of the blazer was stopped.

In Indonesia, the blazer was sold under the Opel brand.

Models with a different appearance were offered on the South American and Russian markets.
