The Chevrolet Sail is a small car, the current generation of which has been built by Shanghai GM in China since 2010 . The car is sold in China, but also in other emerging countries .

While the first generation is based on the Opel Corsa B , the second generation was developed directly in China. The car will be under 60 000  RMB , a price segment in which only Chinese brands were previously active. The Sail is based on the current design of the Chevrolet models.

After the Chevrolet brand entered China in 2005, the model previously marketed as Buick Sail (a derivative of the Opel Corsa B ) was offered under the Chevrolet brand. A 4152 mm long notchback sedan and a 4097 mm long station wagon were available as body variants. In both a was R4 - Otto engine fitted with 1598 cc capacity and a maximum power of 68 kW. Production ran until the end of 2009.

Notchback and station wagons are available as body variants. While the notchback sedan was presented in January 2010, the hatchback was followed by the formal premiere of the hatchback at Auto China 2010 in Beijing. It is the first car developed directly in China as part of a joint venture . The car is equipped with two airbags as standard , but ABS costs extra. In July 2014, the millionth vehicle of this vehicle generation was sold. The vehicle was offered on the Indian market until the end of 2017. GM's Colmotores plant in Bogota , Colombia, produced the notchback version of the vehicle between 2012 and 2019, and CKD kits for the vehicle were assembled in Ecuador . In South America, the notchback sedan is offered as the Chevrolet ChevyTaxi Premium (in model year 2020) and the station wagon was offered as the Chevrolet ChevyTaxi Plus for the taxi market.

The car is optionally powered by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 64 kW or a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with 76 kW. While the 1.2-liter engine comes directly from the higher-priced Chevrolet Aveo , the 1.4-liter engine is even more powerful than the Aveo. In India, a 1.2-liter diesel engine was for the vehicle turbocharging and common rail with 57 kW maximum power available, which was marketed as 1.3 SDE SMARTECH.

The third generation of the Sail was formally presented to the public at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November 2014. The engines, a maximum of 76 kW 1.3-liter and a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with 83 kW, are both equipped with a start-stop function . The vehicle can only be purchased as a notchback sedan. In Mexico it has been offered as the Chevrolet Aveo since the end of 2017.
