The Chevrolet Spark (internal type designation M300 ) is a small car from the US manufacturer General Motors that has been available since 2010. The vehicle was developed by GM Korea and is sold worldwide. At GM Korea, the Spark replaces the Matiz . A notchback sedan has also been available on the same basis since 2017.

In India the model is called Chevrolet Beat and in Australia the vehicle is marketed as Holden Barina Spark as a sub-model of the Holden Barina . In South Korea it initially remained with the name Daewoo Matiz until the Daewoo brand was also given up there in 2011.

Model history

The vehicle was shown publicly for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show 2009. The design goes back to the concept vehicle Beat , which was shown for the first time at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) in 2007. The car was launched in March 2010.

Facelift

The Spark was revised in autumn 2012. The front apron and the third brake light mounted in the rear spoiler are new. The interior was also redesigned. The revised Spark celebrated its premiere at the Mondial de l'Automobile . In Europe, the vehicle is no longer available since Chevrolet withdrew from imports in 2014. Another facelift for some markets in South America took place in 2017. A notchback sedan, which was shown as the Chevrolet Essentia concept vehicle at the Auto Expo in Delhi in 2016 , and which at GM's Talegaon plant in India as the Chevrolet Beat Sedán for Latin American markets is based on this version is produced.

Succession

The successor Chevrolet Spark M400 is sold in some markets (e.g. Mexico) in parallel with the Spark M300, which received a major facelift in 2017, while in others it completely replaces the M300 (e.g. USA).

Engines

Rear view

The Spark is sold with two inline four-cylinder petrol engines (1.0-liter engine with 50 kW and 1.2-liter engine with 60 kW); a diesel engine has not yet been offered. The gasoline engines of the Chevrolet Spark with the Euro 5 standard are suitable for E10 .

An all- electric version called the Spark EV was sold between June 2013 and the beginning of 2017, but was not available in Germany. Production began on March 18, 2013 in South Korea and ended in summer 2016. The engine of the pre-production model has an output of 96 kW (130 PS) and its lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 20 kWh. The electric car celebrated its world premiere at the LA Auto Show 2012. In the series version, the permanent magnet machine has an output of 105 kW.
