The Chevrolet Orlando (internal type designation J309) is a compact van of the Chevrolet brand belonging to General Motors that was produced from 2010 to 2018. The vehicle name refers to the place Orlando in the US state Florida .

Model history

The Orlando concept vehicle was presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile 2008 in Paris as the successor to the Chevrolet Rezzo . At the same fair, two years (2010) later, the series version was formally presented to the public for the first time. Series production of the first generation started in October 2010. Sales in Germany started on March 19, 2011. Sales of the Orlando in Central Europe ended around mid-2014 when the brand withdrew. Equipment variants

The equipment lines offered were:

  • LS : Basic equipment with electronic stability control (ESC), six airbags, air conditioning and electrically adjustable mirrors
  • LT : as standard with automatic air conditioning, additionally with 16 ″ aluminum wheels, parking sensors, leather steering wheel and radio controls on the steering wheel
  • LTZ : as standard with 17 ″ aluminum wheels, additionally with light and rain sensor, automatically dimming rearview mirror and cruise control
  • LTZ + from model year 2014, standard with 18 ″ aluminum wheels, additionally with direction indicators in the exterior mirrors.

Seating concept and cargo space

The Orlando has seven seats as standard, two of which are located behind the rear axle and can be opened individually. The middle row of seats can be folded forward for entry to the rear. When used as a seven-seater, the trunk volume is reduced to 89 liters and the backrests of the rear seats extend almost to the tailgate.

When the third row of seats is folded down, the load surface is level. The middle row of seats can also be completely folded down (asymmetrically divided 1/3 right, 2/3 left), so that a flat, continuous loading area with a total of 1487 liters can be achieved. At 4.65 meters, the Orlando is longer than its competitors Opel Zafira B and VW Touran I , the latter with 1989 liters of cargo space.

technology

Like the Chevrolet Cruze J300 and the Opel Astra J , the Orlando is based on the Delta II platform from General Motors.

safety

In the Euro NCAP crash test carried out in 2011, the vehicle was given an overall rating of five stars. Since the NCAP crash test does not provide for a rear impact test, no well-founded statement can be made about the safety of the rear row of seats; According to the manufacturer, the head airbags only protect occupants in the first and second row of seats. The ADAC refers to Euro NCAP crash test results with very low stress on the cervical spine in a rear crash.

Engines

The Orlando was offered with two gasoline engines and two 2.0-liter diesel engines. The 1.8-liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 104 kW (141 hp) was available with a 5-speed manual or 6- speed automatic transmission . The so-called “detuned” diesel had a maximum output of 96 kW (131 PS) and a maximum torque of 315 Nm. The more powerful diesel version develops a maximum output of 120 kW (163 hp), the maximum torque is 360 Nm. With this engine, the Orlando was also available with a 6-speed automatic transmission. In Otto engines, the camshafts are driven by toothed belts , in Diesel engines by a timing chain . In Canada, the Orlando was available with a 2.4-liter R4 petrol engine from the Ecotec series with gasoline direct injection , a maximum output of 130 kW and a six-speed manual gearbox or, for an additional charge, a six-speed automatic gearbox.

From 2012 a 1.4-liter gasoline engine with turbocharging and a maximum output of 103 kW (140 hp) was also offered. In conjunction with the six-speed manual gearbox, the 1.4-liter engine was fitted with a start / stop system and Eco-Drive Assistant as standard. The combined consumption according to the NEDC averages 6.2 liters per 100 kilometers.

The top speed for the gasoline engine variant is around 195 km / h and for the diesel it is 180 km / h or 195 km / h (96 kW and 120 kW). The tank capacity is 64 liters.
