At the end of 1999, a limited version of the Tahoe was presented, which was sporty and only available in black. The bumpers, side skirts and the radiator grille were painted in the same color as the car. Fog lights were fitted as standard in the front apron. There were no longer any roof racks and the car ran on 16 " aluminum wheels as standard. It was also lowered by 51 mm and had a larger brake system to underline the sporty aspect.

At the end of 1999, Chevrolet presented the Tahoe on the GMT820 truck chassis of the Chevrolet Silverado , while the Limited model and the model with the model code Z71 continued to be offered on the previous basis. The most noticeable change in this chassis is that of the rear axle. This should offer the vehicle not only more driving comfort but also more driving safety.

The basic shape of the body was retained; only generally a little softer and more rounded. The interior and the dashboard have also been revised and adapted to the slightly softer shapes.

Instead of the 5.7-l V8 engine from the Vortec range known from its predecessor, two new engines were available: a 4.8-l V8 engine (maximum output: 205 kW / 275 hp) or a 5 , 3 l V8 engine (maximum: 213 kW / 285 hp). Both now deliver more power than the engine known from the predecessor and consume less fuel.

From autumn 2003, Chevrolet built its new StabiliTrak stability program into the Tahoe for the first time . From the 2004 model year, the maximum output was increased to 213 kW (285 hp) for the 4.8-l V8 engine and 220 kW (295 hp) for the 5.3-l V8 engine.

The third generation of the Tahoe presented in autumn 2005 is based on the GMT900 truck chassis.

The Tahoe has been thoroughly redesigned for the 2007 model year. It looks much more angular than the second generation, but according to GM, the body with a C w of 0.361 should be aerodynamically improved. The interior has also been modified with a redesigned dashboard, new seats and new door panels. The basic version of the Chevrolet Tahoe offers space for five passengers, but can be expanded to accommodate up to seven seats with an optional third rear bench seat.

Three V8 engines with partial cylinder deactivation are available as drive , which can drive either the rear axle or all four wheels via a four or six-speed automatic transmission. Alternatively, a hybrid version was available.

The third generation brought improvements in efficiency. The fuel consumption standard highway improved at the 5.3-liter engine of 12.4 l / 100 km (19 mpg) to 11.2 l / 100 km (mpg 21) thanks to as Active Fuel Management designated cylinder deactivation . Urban consumption remained the same at 15.7 l / 100 km (16 mpg).

With this generation, Chevrolet offered a hybrid version of the vehicle for the first time with the Advanced Hybrid System 2 developed in collaboration with Chrysler . This so-called two-mode hybrid version offers a revised V8 engine with a displacement of 6.0 liters, a maximum output of 248 kW (332 hp) and an automatic transmission as standard. There are also two electric motors with 60 kW, which are fed by a 300-volt battery under the rear seat bench. Up to a speed of 45 km / h, the Tahoe only runs with electrical energy. In this way, General Motors promised, the urban fuel consumption of the Tahoe Hybrid would be reduced by a total of 50 percent compared to vehicles with a 5.3-liter engine without a hybrid system, and the average consumption of 10.7 liters per 100 kilometers (22 mpg) by 30 percent. From model year 2010 (autumn 2009), the 5.3-l V8 engine with a maximum output of now 243 kW (326 hp) was also offered in E85 mode. In petrol operation, it was 239 kW (320 hp) from the start of sales.
