The GMC Yukon is a sport utility vehicle from the American automobile manufacturer GMC . It is currently in the third generation and, like the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, is based on the GMT-900 chassis from General Motors.

The first generation of the Yukon on the GMT-400 chassis came on the market in 1992 as a replacement for the GMC Jimmy K5. Like its predecessor, it was available as a three-door Yukon GT. The five-door hatchback followed in 1995. Permanent all-wheel drive was offered as an option from 1998, but rear-wheel drive remained standard. The Chevrolet Tahoe / Suburban and later the Cadillac Escalade were already on the same chassis .
In 1998 GMC introduced the top model, the GMC Yukon Denali , which was the luxury version of the vehicle. This variant was introduced in order to be able to offer competition to the luxury model Lincoln Navigator from the Ford concern. In the same year, the Cadillac Escalade was also offered on the same basis.

The second generation of the Yukon is based, like the second generation Chevrolet Tahoe, on the GMT-800 chassis. This was introduced in 2000 and it differed little in design from its corporate brother.
Furthermore, the Yukon XL was offered for the first time in this generation. This is identical to the Chevrolet Suburban and forms a 57 cm longer version of the Yukon and is designed as a 7-seater. The Yukon XL is also available in the basic version and as Denali .

The third generation of the Yukon, like the third generation Chevrolet Tahoe , is based on the GMT-900 chassis.
As with its predecessor, this Yukon is also available as the Yukon XL in the 7-seater version and is therefore identical to the Chevrolet Suburban .

The new generation of the Yukon was also presented alongside the new Chevrolet Tahoe . This is optionally available with a larger engine and is also visually more different from the Chevrolet.
