The Chevrolet Bruin - also sold as the GMC Brigadier - was a heavy truck manufactured by General Motors from 1978 to 1988 model years. Both models were hooded trucks and shared the same driver's cab as the 9500 series that was introduced in 1966. This driver's cab was better constructed than is usual for large trucks, but larger than the driver's cab of a pickup truck , as used in the C40 - C65 series that were manufactured at the same time .

There were diesel engines from Caterpillar , Cummins, and Detroit Diesel to choose from.

Bruin followed the pattern of the "Frontier Beast" names given to the larger Chevrolet trucks, such as Bison (larger) and Kodiak (smaller). Brigadier followed the pattern of the military rank names given to GMC's large trucks. Unlike the Chevrolet Titan / GMC Astro and the Chevrolet Bison / GMC General, there was a suitable successor for the Bruin / Brigadier in the Chevrolet Kodiak / GMC Topkick / Isuzu H series.

The GMC version was more common than Chevrolet's.
