Previous model Chevrolet Citation

The Chevrolet Beretta was a mid-range front-wheel drive coupe produced by the American automobile manufacturer Chevrolet from 1987 to 1996.

The Beretta was based on General Motors' L platform ; its sister model was the sedan Chevrolet Corsica, available as a notchback or hatchback .

history

In the summer of 1987, Chevrolet introduced the Beretta and Corsica models as successors to the Chevrolet Citation . The Beretta was a four-seater coupe in a moderate wedge shape, initially only available in a single version and powered by a two-liter four-cylinder or a 2.8-liter V6.

1989 appeared as an additional version of the Beretta GT with standard V6 and sports suspension. In the course of the model year, the range was expanded to include the Beretta GTU, which received the factory-fitted V6, radiator grille in body color and a spoiler / sill package.

The Beretta GTU was replaced in the 1990 model year by the Beretta GTZ, which was powered by a 183 hp version of the so-called GM Quad Four four-cylinder engine with two overhead camshafts and 16 valves. This model also had spoilers and rocker panels, but in a more restrained design than the GTU. The four-cylinder in the base model increased from 91 to 96, the V6 from 127 to 137 hp.

Chevrolet Beretta Z26 (1996)

In 1991, a 2.2-liter in-line four-cylinder with an unchanged 96 hp replaced the previous two-liter, the 2.8-liter gave way to a 3.1-liter V6 and a driver airbag supplemented the standard equipment.

In 1992 the output of the four-cylinder increased to 112 hp thanks to multipoint injection.

In the 1994 model year, a new sports version called the Beretta Z26 replaced the previous GT and GTZ; The new variant was powered by the Quad Four sixteen-valve engine with a power reduction of 177 hp .

In 1995 the Quad Four was discontinued, instead the Beretta Z26 made use of the 3.1-liter V6 with 157 hp.

Chevrolet produced a total of around 905,000 Beretta models by 1996.
