The Chevrolet HHR (Heritage High Roof) is a front-wheel drive passenger car from General Motors .

Model history

The Chevrolet HHR was unveiled at the 2005 Los Angeles Auto Show as a 2006 model year vehicle. The vehicle was launched on the American market in 2006 and the European market in 2007 and exported to Japan. By June 2006, the HHR had sold 93,000 vehicles. After the response to the European premiere of the vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show 2007 was positive, the HHR was also sold on the German market from November 2007. However, the sales figures were disappointing, so that the sale of the HHR in Europe was stopped again in May 2009, in Germany sales of 500 units per year were expected.

The model was discontinued in May 2011.

Conception

It is a so-called crossover vehicle in which the properties of a station wagon have been linked with those of a multi-purpose SUV . It was located below the Chevrolet Equinox . He shared the GM Delta - platform with the Opel Astra H , Chevrolet Cobalt , Pontiac G5 and the Saturn Ion and was in Ramos Arizpe made (Mexico). The design of the five-door HHR with its retro elements is based on the 1949 Chevrolet Suburban . The concept is based on the Chrysler PT Cruiser and is primarily intended to appeal to younger groups of buyers.

The retro design comes from Brian Nesbitt, who previously designed the PT Cruiser for Chrysler. Special features of the design are the narrow windows, the wide roof pillars and the pronounced fenders and bumpers.

For the 2007 model year, the equipment variants 1LS, 1LT, 2LT and Special Edition were available, and there was also a van with sheet metal rear side windows, called Panel LS / Panel LT, based on the 1LS and 1LT version . Standard features were electrically adjustable exterior mirrors, 16-inch wheels, front airbags , air conditioning , cruise control, on-board computer , central locking, power steering, electric windows and CD radio with six speakers. Optional extras included a glass sunroof, electrically adjustable leather seats, CD changer with sound system, head airbags, automatically dimming interior mirrors, leather steering wheel with audio control buttons, up to 17-inch alloy wheels, traction control , fog lights, running boards and other attachments.

The equipment package Premiere Special Edition Package was equipped with 17-inch wheels in black chrome, an exterior package also in black chrome, fog lights and front lights with tinted glasses, running boards painted in the body color, design stripes, black roof rails and a special rear roof spoiler. The interior was black and the leather steering wheel was set off with colored stitching. The special paint was called "Cappuccino Frost Metallic". The package was only available for the 2LT trim level .

Compared to the US version, there were only a few equipment variants and four colors were available. The basic model was equipped with black, heated leather seats; the steering column was height adjustable. The safety equipment included driver, front passenger and window airbags, ABS , ESC and seat belts with belt tensioners . Other extras such as manual air conditioning, cruise control (cruise control), fog lights, automatically dimming interior mirrors and 17-inch light alloy wheels were also part of the basic equipment in Europe. The running boards for widening the sills are not available for the European model.

With the 2.4 liter engine, the HHR accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of electronically regulated 180 km / h. The payload for this engine is 453 kg. In October 2006, Cheryl Catton, Director of Vehicle Marketing at Chevrolet, confirmed that there would be a high-performance variant of the HHR. HHR panel

Trivia

With the introduction of the Chevrolet Cruze in May 2009, the HHR was taken out of the range in Germany and was only available as a new car through independent importers.
