The Chevrolet Independence Series AE was a middle class passenger car that was only manufactured by Chevrolet in model year 1931 as the only model series and successor to the Universal Series AD . The vehicle was introduced in November 1930 and was available with twelve different bodies - nine two-door and three four-door. The wheelbase had grown by 2 ″ to 2769 mm. The cars had the above-controlled six-cylinder in-line engines (OHV) of the predecessor. The machine with 3179 cm 3 , however, displacement developed a power of 50 hp (37 kW) at 2600 min -1 . The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a single-disc dry clutch and a manual three-speed gearbox. All four wheels had mechanical drum brakes and were wire-spoke wheels as standard.
The sales prices were again reduced compared to those of the predecessor and were between 475 and 650 US dollars. Despite the longer model life of 13 months (only 11 for the Universal), only 623,901 units were built. In December 1931, Chevrolet discontinued the Universal in favor of the new Confederate BA series .
