The Chevrolet Avalanche is a four-door, five- or six-seat pickup model of the US auto company General Motors , which was introduced in 2001 and produced until 2013. The name Avalanche means avalanche . The Avalanche is the pick-up version of the Chevrolet Suburban . There are similarities to the Chevrolet Silverado , but the Avalanche has a closed loading area in contrast to this. In addition, the Avalanche only has a double cabin. The Avalanche was equipped with the same engines as the Chevrolet Tahoe .
With the second generation of models, the front section has been completely adapted to that of the Suburban. This version was produced from the end of 2006. Prices started at $ 34,335 for the LS (as of 2008).

The vehicle was shown for the first time as a concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in 2000. The series vehicle came onto the market in 2001 and was produced until 2006. It is based on the GMT800 platform . The engines available were a 5.3 liter V8 engine with a maximum output of 213 kW (285 hp) in the Avalanche 1500 and an 8.1 liter V8 engine with a maximum output of 254 kW (340 hp) ) in the Avalanche 2500. The power is transmitted to the wheels by means of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive and a four-speed automatic transmission (Hydramatic 4L60E for the Avalanche 1500 or Hydramatic 4L85E for the Avalanche 2500). In the US NCAP crash test carried out in 2002 , the vehicle was rated three stars on the driver's side and four stars on the front passenger side.

The second generation of the vehicle was first shown at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show and is based on the GMT900 platform . It was offered with a 5.3-liter V8 engine with a maximum output of 239 kW (320 hp) and a 5.3-liter V8 engine with a maximum output of 239 kW (320 hp) with rear-wheel drive or 231 kW (310 hp) with all-wheel drive and a 6.0-liter V8 engine with a maximum output of 273 kW (366 hp), which was offered until model year 2010. On the drive side, as with the previous generation, it initially remained with a four-speed automatic transmission that was later replaced (model year 2009) by a six-speed automatic transmission; both engines were offered with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive. In the US NCAP crash test in 2007, the vehicle was rated five stars in a frontal test. Production was stopped in 2013.
