The Chevrolet Citation was a mid-range vehicle from the American car manufacturer Chevrolet that was equipped with front-wheel drive. It was produced as the successor to the popular Nova from spring 1979 to mid-1985 in a total of 1.63 million copies.
history
It was based on General Motors' new X platform ; Sister models were the Buick Skylark , the Oldsmobile Omega and the Pontiac Phoenix . The Chevrolet Celebrity , Buick Century , Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and Pontiac 6000 models, which were introduced a little later, were also built on the X platform .
After an extremely successful first model year (with over 800,000 units produced), sales plummeted. The reason for this was that the Citation went down in the annals as the car with the most recalls.
From model year 1984 the car was officially named Citation II, probably to indicate the numerous design improvements that had been made to it.
In contrast to the usual large-format American cars, the Chevrolet Citation was downright small with a length of 4.50 meters. At that time, GM responded to customer demand for more economical engines and offered this car as a 2.8 l V6 with 85 kW (115 hp) or as a 2.5 l four-cylinder with 66 kW (90 hp). So you won't find a Citation with V8.
The Citation, like its sister models Phoenix, Skylark and Omega, was available from German Opel / GM dealers. The sales price ex works without extras was DM 18,990 in 1979.
Body versions
The Chevrolet Citation was available in three different versions:
- three-door hatchback
- five-door hatchback
- two-door coupé with notchback (only model years 1980 and 1982 to 1984)
As the top model, the Citation was offered from model year 1981 with the additional designation X11 . This vehicle had standard aluminum rims, a rear spoiler and a 2.8-liter V6 that had been upgraded to 99 kW (135 hp).
The X11 was only offered as a two-door coupe and a three-door hatchback model.
