The Chevrolet Trax is a compact crossover - SUV from General Motors , that of Chevrolet was introduced in most countries in April, 2013.
The car is based on the same platform ( Gamma II platform ) as the Opel Mokka and its twin Buick Encore, available from October 2012 to June 2019 . In Australia and Oceania, it is sold as the Holden Trax by the Holden car brand. In South America and Russia the car is marketed under the name Chevrolet Tracker .
history
Concept vehicle
A concept vehicle of the same name was presented at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS) in 2007. Except for the name and the positioning of the model as a small SUV, this design study has little in common with the production model.
Production model
In autumn 2012 the Trax was formally presented at the Mondial de l'Automobile . In Canada, the car is offered as the first compact Chevrolet SUV.
The Holden development center has optimized the chassis of the Trax "for more than 20 markets", including "Australia, Russia, South Africa and New Zealand".
The model name "Tracker" used in South America is reminiscent of the GM versions of the Suzuki Vitara and Suzuki Grand Vitara , which were used as trackers in South and North America from 1989 to 1991 and from 1999 to 2008 under various brand names (Chevrolet, GMC, Asüna, Geo) were sold.
In Europe, the vehicle has not been available since Chevrolet ceased sales in 2014; In North America, it received a facelift for the 2017 model year , which was formally shown for the first time at the 2016 Chicago Auto Show .
In autumn 2016, based on the facelift version, a concept vehicle with extended site planking under the name "Chevrolet Trax Activ Concept" was shown at the SEMA Show .
In April 2019, the successor model for the Chinese market was presented at the Shanghai Auto Show . The Chevrolet Tracker has been sold there since June 2019 .
safety
When Euro NCAP - Crash Test and the US NCAP -Crashtest the vehicle received a total score of five stars. In the crash tests carried out by the IIHS , it was rated “Good” in the “Moderate front overlap” attempt.
