The Holden Brougham was an upper class - car, which until 1971 in the model years 1968 by Holden in Australia as a luxury version of the Belmont / Kingswood / Premier was built.

In July 1968, together with the Monaro sports coupé, the new luxury sedan of the HK series, the Brougham HK , which has existed since January, was presented. Basically, it was a Premier , whose trunk had been lengthened and had a more angular finish with narrow, vertical taillights. It had a W-shaped contoured front with double headlights at the two ends of a radiator grille divided into a vertical and a horizontal chrome rod. The Brougham was only available with the new V8 engines and had a vinyl roof and the best equipment (including individual seats in the front and leather interior). It replaced the Premier as the top model in the series and was Holden's answer to the Ford Fairlane .

Two V8 engines were available: the basis was the engine from Chevrolet with 5031 cm³ and 210 bhp (154 kW) and from the other GM brands came a V8 with 5359 cm³ and 250 bhp (184 kW).

The first facelift followed in May 1969 to the Brougham HT . The horizontal chrome bar, which shared the radiator grille in the previous year, was omitted, so that only the vertical one remained.

More happened with the engines: On the one hand, Holden developed its own V8 engines with a displacement of 4146 cm³ and 174 bhp (128 kW) with a compression of 8: 1 or 185 bhp (136 kW) with a compression of 9: 1, as well as a replacement for the Chevrolet engine a V8 with 5047 cm³ and 240 bhp (176 kW). On the other hand, the GM small block V8 with 5735 cm³ displacement and 275 bhp (202 kW) in automatic mode and 300 bhp (221 kW) with manual transmission was imported. Since the motors of the last HK series were also used up, there were seven different motors to choose from in the Brougham HT.

In July 1971 the second facelift came to the Brougham HG . The vertically split grille had given way to a rough checkered design. The engine range was almost the same as that of the HT, only the old Chevrolet engine with 5.05 l displacement and 210 bhp had had its day.
