The successor to the JE Camira was provided in August 1989 by a cooperation with Toyota . The JK Apollo was basically a Toyota Camry V20 , adapted to Australian conditions. Like its predecessor, it was available in the equipment variants SL, SL / X and SL / E , whereby the SL / X could also be upgraded to Executive with the A8Q package . The drive was provided by the well-known 2.0 l in-line four-cylinder engine with double camshafts and either a double carburetor and 82 kW or an EFI injection and 88 kW. A manual five-speed gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmitted the engine power to the front wheels. The JK Apollo was available in all equipment levels as a 4-door sedan or 5-door station wagon.
In August there was a small facelift to the JL Apollo . The carburettor engine was omitted, as were the Executive models. The model range began with the SL , the next level was the SL / X , then came the sporty GS . The top model SL / E was only available as a sedan. JK and JL look very similar, with the JL adding a bit more chrome on the grille and window surrounds.

In March 1993, the new JM Apollo , based on the Toyota Camry XV10 , was presented. It had grown somewhat in size and was still available as a four-door sedan or five-door station wagon. Completely new was the engine: In addition to the drilled four-cylinder predecessor with 2.2 liter displacement and 95 kW of power, there was also an optional V6 engine with 24 valves, consisting of 2,959 cm 3 , a power output of 136 kW fetched. The V6 was always delivered with automatic transmission, the R4 was available with either manual or automatic transmission. The simplest and the most luxurious equipment variants SL and SL / E were omitted; there was only the SL / X and the GS. All vehicles had disc brakes on all four wheels, the V6 also had ABS on request .
In 1995 there was another facelift, from which the JP Apollo emerged . Its grille, consisting of two horseshoe-shaped openings next to each other, was similar to that of the VR / VS Commodore .
