Life
Travis Dickerson grew up in Michigan, where his father taught as an art professor at Central Michigan University . When Travis was ten years old, his father traded one of his paintings for an old piano, which the boy subsequently repaired.
Together with his brothers experimented Dickerson early with various musical instruments, made the first recordings and later moved to Los Angeles about where he on the punk band X met. In his new studio in Chatsworth, many of the band's recordings and solo projects by the members were realized. It was also the singer Exene Cervenka who introduced Dickerson to Viggo Mortensen, which resulted in a friendship and artistic collaboration that continues to this day. Almost all of Mortensen's music albums were subsequently recorded or distributed by TDRS.
In 1994 Dickerson was keyboardist on the album County Fair 2000 by Phil Alvin ( The Blasters ) and in 1998 on Shocking Pink Banana Seat by songwriter Susan James. He wrote the liner notes for the anthology Beyond And Back by X , published in 1997 .
In San Francisco , Dickerson met the experimental guitarist Buckethead, who, bitterly disappointed by regular record labels, found a new home in TDRS for his numerous publications. Dickerson was involved in many of Buckethead's projects as a keyboard player, so the two started the jazz-rock formation Thanatopsis in 2001 and a series called Chicken Noodles with jazz-influenced jams in 2006 . Dickerson had already edited and re-released the out of print albums by Cornbugs , a band led by Bill Moseley and Buckethead. He also worked as a musician on the band's last two albums before the breakup.
