The first generation Encore is sold as the Opel Mokka in Europe and as the Vauxhall Mokka in the UK. The Chevrolet Trax is also almost identical . The vehicle was presented to the public for the first time at the North American International Auto Show 2012 in Detroit and has been on sale since January 2013.

The first generation of the SUV offers ten airbags (front, side, knees and head), a high-resolution, 18 cm diagonal LC display and a voice-controlled infotainment system . In addition, so-called quiet tuning, which actively suppresses background noise, a two-zone automatic air conditioning, a premium audio system from Bose , a rain sensor and a heated leather steering wheel. The safety assistants, which are also available for the Mokka / Trax, such as collision warning, lane departure warning and a reversing camera, which is coupled with a parking aid, are also part of the standard equipment.

The Buick Encore is powered by a turbocharged 1.4-liter gasoline engine. It is available with both front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The base price is $ 24,200.

In the US NCAP crash test, the overall result was five stars; the partial results are: 5 stars as the overall frontal impact result, 5 stars as the overall side impact result and 4 stars as the rollover result.

At the New York International Auto Show in April 2016, Buick showed a facelift of the Encore. The revised version has been available from dealers since June 2016.

The second generation of the SUV, like the larger Buick Encore GX, debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019 . Both models have been sold in China since July 2019. On the North American market, the new Encore GX will be offered in parallel to the old Encore.

The new Encore shares the GEM platform with the Chevrolet Tracker, which was also presented in Shanghai . Due to the takeover of Opel by the PSA Group , a new Mocha is to be built on a different floor pan.

Technical specifications

The second generation of the Encore is powered by a one-liter gasoline engine with 92 kW (125 hp) or a 1.3-liter gasoline engine with 121 kW (165 hp). Four-wheel drive is not available. Both drive variants are also used in the Chevrolet Tracker.
