history
Like the second generation of the smaller Buick Encore, the vehicle debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show in April 2019 . Both SUV models have been sold in China since July 2019 . In the North American market, the new Encore GX has been offered alongside the old Encore since early 2020. According to Buick's head of marketing, Samuel "Sam" C. Russel, due to the success of the Encore already on offer and the long expected time to establish a new model designation, no new name was chosen for the vehicle, but the addition "GX". If it is sorted into the “subcompact plus” segment there, it is also marketed a little higher.
The VSS F - platform shares the Encore GX with the also featured in 2019 in Shanghai Chevrolet TrailBlazer .
production
The vehicle is built at GM Korea 's Bupyeong plant for the North American market. The SAIC General Motors plant in Dong Yue South is responsible for the Chinese market . Engines for the North American market are built at GM's Ramos Arizpe plant in Mexico .
drive
The SUV in China is driven by a 1.3-liter in-line three-cylinder - petrol engine with 121 kW (165 hp) of maximum power . In North America there are two R3 gasoline engines: one with a displacement of 1.2 liters (engine code: LIH) with a maximum output of 102 kW (137 hp ) and one with a displacement of 1.3 liters (engine code: L3T) with 115 kW ( 155 hp).
