Insurance Institute for Highway Safety

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an American non-profit organization , funded by auto insurers, founded in 1959 and based in Arlington . The IIHS works to reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents and to lower the injury rate as well as the property damage caused by accidents. The renowned institute conducts research, carries out crash tests and publishes rankings for popular cars as well as for certain products such as child car seats . The IIHS also researches the design of roads and traffic routing and is involved in political decisions. Studies by the institute are also received by the German Road Safety Council and the ADAC .
