At the end of 2015, the second generation of the Cruze was initially launched in North America as a sedan, which was formally presented for the first time on June 24, 2015 at the Fillmore Theater on Woodward Avenue in Detroit , Michigan . The hatchback variant was presented at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2016 and has been on sale since the end of 2016.

The market launch was originally planned for the end of 2014. The shift is due to technical modifications. Therefore, the first generation was sold longer than initially thought, only in China a new generation of Cruze was introduced. This was then replaced in July 2016 by the approximately ten centimeters longer, North American version. The second generation is not sold in Europe, in Australia the sedan has been offered as the Holden Astra Sedan since 2017 . The model has been available in Brazil since 2016. The vehicle received a facelift for the 2019 model year.

For North America, it was decided at the end of 2018 due to restructuring at GM to discontinue the model for the local market; it is to continue to be offered in the other markets.

Production sites

The Cruze J400 was and is being built at GM's Lordstown, Ohio, US (end of production March 2019), Ramos Arizpe in Mexico, Rosario in Argentina, Norsom II in China (end of production in February 2020) and Gunsan in South Korea.

Engines

Basically the same engines (1.4-l and 1.5-l petrol engines) are available as in the version from 2014 to 2016 for China.

In the USA, the Cruze was also offered with a turbo-charged diesel engine with a maximum output of 102 kW.
