The Daewoo Nexia is a passenger car model from the Korean car brand GM Daewoo and is basically based on the Kadett E developed by Opel. It was available as a three- and five-door hatchback model as well as a four-door notchback version and was launched from 1994 (in Germany from 1995 ) offered until 1997. In Uzbekistan , the Daewoo Nexia, revised since 2008, is still being produced. The manufacturer of this is Uz-DaewooAvto . For a short time there was the Nexia in badge engineering as Chevrolet .
In other countries, including India, Romania, Iran and New Zealand, it was sold as Daewoo Cielo , in Chile under other names as Daewoo Pointer . In Thailand, however, it was called Daewoo Heaven . In South Korea, the model was marketed as the Daewoo Super Racer . The Daewoo Nexia is again a facelift of the Daewoo Racer .
The body has been optimized several times over the years. The original model differed from the Opel Kadett E only in details, depending on the country of sale. For example, the Daewoo Racer was offered as the Pontiac LeMans in the US and Canada . The visual differences were additional front indicators in the bumper, red rear lights, the Pontiac logo on the radiator grille and on the black rear fascia as well as the typical side marker lights .
The body of the Daewoo Nexia is largely identical to that of the Opel Kadett E. What distinguishes it from the Kadett are a modified rear and a modified front as well as other door handles, other exterior mirrors (from facelift), fuel filler flap also on the hatchback, fuel flap remote unlocking and other smaller attachments. The rear doors of the Nexia five-door model also differ from those of the Kadett E, as the rear side window of the Racer has been retained for better all-round visibility.
The engines used were two 1.5 liter and one 1.8 liter, the 1.8 was not offered in Germany. The 1.5 liter 8-valve engine had 55 kW (75 hp), the 16V delivered 66 kW (90 hp) and the 1.8 liter developed 74 kW (101 hp). In Germany, the Nexia was delivered with emission class E2 up to 1996. From model year '97, these met the Euro2 standard by retrofitting an EGR valve, adapted control unit and a second resonance box in the intake tract (to dampen the intake noise). There was a choice of a 5-speed manual transmission with hydraulic clutch or a 4-speed automatic transmission, which was also installed in the Astra F. Otherwise, the power transmission and gear steps are the same as in the F13CR and F16CR transmissions from Opel.
In the course of time there have been slight modifications to the external appearance. The plastic corners (perforated version) of the three-door model known from the Kadett GSI were replaced by smooth, angularly slotted ones at the beginning of 1996. At the same time, the old side mirrors were replaced by new ones and the round side indicators were revised. The inner door openers of the three-door car were no longer square, but round. So one can speak of a “small facelift”. Basically there were the equipment GL / GTX (hatchback 8V / 16V) and GLE / GLX (notchback 8V / 16V). Special models were the Junior, Sportiv, Fantasy, Cool and Royal.
Nowadays the Nexia is still made in India and Uzbekistan. In 2008, Uzbekistan began building the successor. The Nexia 2 (N150) is still based on the Nexia (N100), or Opel Kadett, which was revised for 15 million US $. The engines meet the Euro3 standard and come from the Lanos.
