The Daewoo Espero ( called Daewoo Aranos in some Spanish-speaking countries ) was a vehicle from the Korean car brand Daewoo . It was built in Korea from autumn 1991 to summer 1999. The main competitor of the Espero on the Korean home market was the Hyundai Sonata .
From February 1995 to June 1997 the Espero was also sold in Europe. In Eastern Europe it was also sold as a Chevrolet .
Technology and equipment
The Espero was technically based on the Opel Ascona C ( GM-J platform ) released in summer 1981 , but it had its own body designed by Bertone . With a length of 4.61 m, the Daewoo Espero was a mid-range model. In contrast to the Opel Ascona, which was also delivered with a hatchback, the Espero was only available as a four-door notchback sedan.
During the entire production period it was available with several petrol engines:
- 1.5 l four-cylinder 16V engine with 65 kW / 88 PS (10.1993-09.1994)
- 1.5 l four-cylinder 16V engine with 55 kW / 75 PS (10.1994-09.1999)
- 1.8 l four-cylinder 8V engine with 66 kW / 90 PS and 70 kW / 95 PS (10.1994-09.1999)
- 1.8 l four-cylinder 8V engine with 70 kW / 95 PS; not in Germany (02.1995-09.1999)
- 2.0 l four-cylinder 8V engine with 74 kW / 101 PS (10.1991–09.1993; 10.1993–09.1994: 81 kW / 110 PS; 10.1994–09.1999: 77 kW / 105 PS)
The factory consumption was between 8.2 liters (90 PS) to 7.9 liters (105 PS) regular gasoline per 100 kilometers.
