The SsangYong Musso is a sports utility vehicle from the Korean car manufacturer SsangYong .
It was first produced in 1993 and had a gasoline or diesel engine from Mercedes-Benz . The car was designed by Ken Greenly and has received harsh criticism for its appearance.
The Musso has five seats. Like the smaller SUV SsangYong Korando, it is suitable for off-road use. In the last few years the SsangYong Musso Sport was also built. It is a pickup truck with 5 seats as well. Together with the Hyundai Santa Fe , the Musso is one of the most popular SUVs from South Korea.
The production of the Musso ended in 2005. The SsangYong Actyon became its successor .
The former production facilities of SsangYong Musso and the model rights were bought by the Russian TagAZ in 2008 . Since then, the model has been produced there under its own brand name. In Vietnam, the model was assembled and marketed by the Mekong Auto Corporation under the name SsangYong Musso Libero from 1999 to 2005 .
Daewoo Musso and Mercedes-Benz Musso
With the takeover of SsangYong by Daewoo , the Musso was also marketed as Daewoo Musso from the end of 1998 to 2002.
Since SsangYong shared the technology with Mercedes-Benz , it was decided to sell the Musso as Mercedes-Benz in some markets. This served to introduce the SsangYong brand there without having to set up an own infrastructure (SsangYongs were looked after in Mercedes-Benz workshops). At the same time, Mercedes-Benz had such a model for the booming SUV market.
