SsangYong Chairman

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The SsangYong Chairman is a model from the Korean car manufacturer SsangYong . The four-door notchback sedan is based on the platform of the Mercedes-Benz W 124 and has been in production since 1998 . The first published model was the Chairman H . Visually, this sedan looks very similar to the Mercedes-Benz W 140 (S-Class), as the body design was copied. Because of the technical relationship and also because of the use of typical Mercedes exterior style elements, the car is not offered in Germany. The chairman's look and the model names 500 and 600 are reminiscent of the Mercedes S-Class, but only the E-Class serves as the basis.

With the acquisition of SsangYong by Daewoo , the Chairman was also sold as Daewoo Chairman between 1998 and 2005. In cooperation with the North Korean automobile manufacturer Pyeonghwa , a sister model was also created in 2006, which is currently called Pyeonghwa Zunma . The sister model, which was manufactured in the People's Republic of China from late 2010, is marketed under the market name Roewe 850 .

The Chairman, who has now been given a facelift, is available (as of early 2008) with left or right-hand drive as a 500S on a wheelbase that is longer than the W 124 (2900 mm), powered by a 2.8-liter in-line six-cylinder (148 kW / 201 PS ), as a 600S of identical size with a 3.2-liter in-line six-cylinder (162 kW / 220 PS) or as a 600L with a 30 cm longer wheelbase. A five-speed automatic transmission, which, like the engines, comes from Mercedes, is standard.
