Roewe is a car brand from the People's Republic of China .

Brand history

In 2004, SAIC Motor from Shanghai bought the building rights for the Rover 25 and Rover 75 models from the insolvent British manufacturer Rover . The trademark rights to the name Rover were not included. Pre-production models were created in 2006. Series production began in January 2007. The brand name is Roewe . In Chinese it sounds like "rong wei", which means something like "glorious power". Roewe Automobile is named as the manufacturer in older sources . The annual reports of the group indicate SAIC Motor Corporation Limited Passenger Vehicle Branch , SAIC Passenger Vehicle for short .
