Wuhan Zhongyu Automobile Co. Ltd. is a manufacturer of motor vehicles from the People's Republic of China .

Company history

The company was founded in Wuhan in 1965 . A source names Wuhan Pedicab as the initial company name . The production of automobiles began. The brand name is Wuhan . In 1976, according to a source, the name was changed to Wuhan No. 2 Motor Vehicle Factory . Dongfeng Motor Corporation took over the company in 2002. In 2003 the production of passenger cars ended . Since then, only commercial vehicles and pick-ups have been produced . In April 2004 it was taken over by the Zhejiang Zhongyu Group . In 2013, Zhejiang Zhongyu (Holding) Group named Wuhan Zhongyu Automobile as one of its subsidiaries.

Another source states that Wuhan Zhongyu Auto was once a joint venture between Dongfeng Motor Corporation and Zhejiang Zhongyu Auto until Dongfeng took over the remaining shares in late 2008.

The first two models, the WH 210 and WH 211, were off-road vehicles that were similar to the Beijing BJ212 . In terms of technology, there was a collaboration with Ulyanovsky Avtomobilny Zavod .

1980 followed with the BJ 213 Changjiang, the first Chinese off-road vehicle with a five-door station wagon body . This model was replaced in 1991 by the WHQ 6450 and WHY 6450 GY / WHQ 2020 models .

The WHQ 1020 S pick-up also appeared in 1991 .

An SUV followed in 2002 with the WHQ 6461 GY and another pick-up with the WHQ 1030 .

In 2005, panel vans followed licenses from Daimler AG .

Car production figures

The following is an overview of the production figures for passenger cars. In 2003, an additional 2335 pick-ups were produced and 1205 in the following year.
