Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile Limited Liability Company , also known as Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile Co. Ltd. was an automobile manufacturer and joint venture company from the People's Republic of China .

Corporate development

For a long time, Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile Co. Ltd. Partly owned by a parent company called Changhe Aircraft Industries Group Co. Ltd. (a group with changing company names over time), which was last owned by the umbrella group Aviation Industry Corporation of China . As a result, the parent company and later also the umbrella group played a decisive role in the initial development of this joint venture company.

Although the Changhe Aircraft Industries Group was founded as a state-owned company in 1969 and the focus of its work is on the construction of helicopters , this resulted in an automobile manufacturing plant, albeit late in 1982 . This is probably due, among other things, to the fact that the official management of the Changhe Aircraft Industries Group from its establishment until April 1982 was exercised by a "No.3 Mechanical Industry Department", an institution that was only incorporated into the " Ministry of Aviation Industry, which means that for a long time this company was directed by an authority which was broadly based in terms of its jurisdiction. In the automobile plant, the Suzuki Carry ST 90VT (series from 1979 to 1985, fourth generation) was built under license under the model name CH1010 / CH6320 until 1984. This was followed by a large number of license builds in cooperation with Suzuki. A joint venture was founded on June 1, 1995 between the China Aviation Industry Corporation , the former umbrella group of Changhe Aircraft , and the Japanese Suzuki Motor Corporation . This is how Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile Limited Liability Company was born . The company was founded with the following capital shares: China Aviation Industry Corp. : 51%, Suzuki Motor Corp. : 39%, OKAYA & Co .: 10%. (The capital share ratios were changed in spring 2009: 41% Jiangxi Changhe Auto, 10% AviChina Industry & Technology, 25.1% Suzuki Motor Corp., 20.9% Suzuki China Investment, 3% OKAYA & Co. in autumn 2013 There is probably another change.) The company's products are manufactured under the Suzuki brand label and, since 2002, possibly also under the Changhe label (see below for details).

Along with the founding of the joint venture company, which was intended to work with Suzuki, Changhe Aircraft and the supervisory umbrella organization also came up with the idea of outsourcing related company departments that dealt with engines and automotive technology to automotive subsidiaries. Among other things, on November 26, 1999, Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Co. Ltd. founded. Only in a later step in 2002 was the car brand Changhe formed for this car manufacturer . Since then, this brand has also been used in part for the labeling of vehicles by Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile , provided that both the Chinese and Japanese sides made a significant contribution to the development of the respective production-ready prototype, which then went into series production, and thus themselves both sides had acquired a right to market the vehicle design in question. In such a case, some of the vehicles produced were provided with the Changhe logo (representative of the Jiangxi Changhe Automobile company ), while another part of the vehicles produced was provided with the Suzuki logo (representative of the Jiangxi Changhe-Suzuki Automobile company ).

In November 2009, Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Co. Ltd. ( "Changhe Auto" ) from the umbrella company Aviation Industry Corporation of China , which is the parent company of the parent company Changhe Aircraft Industries Group , to the China Chang'an Automobile Group Co., sometimes referred to as Changan Automobile Group for short . In return, the Aviation Industry Corporation of China received a 23 percent stake in China Changan Automobile Group Co. , while the parent company of China Chang'an Automobile Group Co. , namely China Weaponry Equipment Group Co., owns the remaining 77 percent . (So the latter gave up 23%.)

From around the middle of 2011, in addition to the classic Suzuki logo, the jagged S, another logo was used by Changhe-Suzuki Auto to label the vehicles: Two intersecting, rounded halves of the trapezoid in a deformed ring - similar to many a belt buckle - are included, formed a new, additional logo.

In the fall of 2013, the provincial government has Jiangxi company Jiangxi Changhe Automobile Co. Ltd. with the help of a transfer of assets to the China Chang'an Automobile Group in their full ownership, in order to subsequently win a financially strong investor for Changhe Auto , as Chang'an was unable to change Changhe in the four years of his management supervision over Changhe Auto to keep on course for growth. The BAIC group has become the new owner with a 70% stake in Changhe ; the remaining 30% remained owned by the Jiangxi regional government . For Suzuku Motor Corporation , this has completely turned the chemistry in the cooperation with the partner company on its head, since a small Chinese car manufacturer named Changhe Auto and a provincial government were no longer joint venture partners, but a powerful car company, namely BAIC , became a partner. The partners could no longer find each other at eye level. In addition, the market in China was changing rapidly. While the joint venture produced high-roof station wagons , minivans and smaller people carriers , the main demand was now for SUVs , which led to a decline in demand in the years following 2013. It so happened that in the first half of 2018 just 24,900 vehicles from the Changhe-Suzuki joint venture were sold on the Chinese market.

What was more serious, however, is that BAIC and the Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corporation have no longer been able to mutually agree on a model of cooperation in matters of new car developments since the BAIC group became majority owner of Changhe Auto . Those in charge of Suzuki were no longer willing to try new technologies Changhe Auto to deliver. The dissent was so deep that BAIC recently delivered chassis to Changhe Auto , which were used for further development for new car models at Changhe Auto , which should have come from Suzuki (as of May 2017). The discrepancies between BAIC and Changhe on the one hand and Suzuki on the other hand came to light with the “Liana” model: Around autumn 2017, a new series of the “ Changhe-Suzuki Liana A6 ” was to be launched. For this purpose, the Changhe engineers had already developed a prototype that was ready for series production and that could be presented, which was built on a " Beijing Senova D50 " chassis. This model had "CHANGHE" in capital letters on the front grille. It looks as if the BAIC group wanted to create a fait accompli by "incorporating" the "Liana A6" into the Changhe model range , as Changhe and Suzuki no longer have equal shares , as was common for decades in the model development, but here Changhe has now anticipated the partner company Suzuki . The people in charge of the Suzuki Motor Corporation obviously did not agree, because the "Liana" had been a core model in the model range of the Changhe-Suzuki Auto joint venture , but not from Changhe Auto . They probably refused to let Changhe Auto and the BAIC group get away with this. Certainly it was an override of the previous agreements between Changhe Auto on the one hand and Suzuki Motor Corporation on the other. There was probably no official legal dispute . In terms of the market, this means that the Liana model has been incorporated into the model range of the Changhe Auto company . However, this has not been without consequences because Suzuku Motor Corporation sold its 46% joint venture stake in Chang'an . The joint venture has effectively ceased to exist after twenty-three years of cooperation.

The head office of Jiangxi Changhe Suzuki car was in the prefecture-level city Jingdezhen in the province of Jiangxi . Another company headquarters was in the city of Weihai in the province of Shandong .
