The joint venture was agreed at the end of 2001. DYK was founded in 2002 and started with a first plant with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. After the second plant was opened in 2007, annual sales increased from 101,000 by 2011 to 433,000 units. Construction of a third plant began in 2012.

The first vehicle produced was the Kia Qianlima , which was a 1997 model year Hyundai Accent . Another early model was the Kia Pride .

Since then, DYK has manufactured numerous models from the Kia model range - some with different type designations.

In 2017, several models were presented that are exclusively produced and sold in China: the Kia Pegas , the Kia K2 Cross and the KX7 .

Since 2018, the Kia Horki 300E powered by an electric motor has been marketed as the first vehicle from the Horki sub-brand based on the first-generation Kia Cerato. It was presented as a concept vehicle in 2013. Since then, DYK has announced the start of production several times. A website that lists the number of car registrations in China sees Horki as a sub-brand of Kia. The vehicle has registrations in China from May 2018 to December 2019.
