Great Wall (completely: Baoding Great Wall Automobile Holding Co., Ltd .; mostly just GWM ) is one of the larger, up-and-coming automakers in the People's Republic of China , based in Baoding , Hebei Province .

history

The name and the brand emblem stand for the Great Wall of China and are intended to convey robustness and durability. The production capacity in 2005 was around 170,000 vehicles. In 2016, Great Wall employed around 72,000 people. The product range includes small cars, SUVs and pick-ups. The company is the first Chinese car manufacturer to operate an assembly plant in the European Union . In February 2012, it was the village Bachowiza near the Bulgarian town of Lovech opened. In 2013, 2,000 vehicles were produced there. All components are manufactured in China and assembled in the factory. The cars, SUVs and pick-ups of the Voleex, Hover and Wingle models cost 8,000 to 22,000 euros in Europe. A development center for European markets has existed in Dietzenbach in Hesse since 2016.

In Italy, the Steed 6 pick-up and the H6 SUV are available for around 15,000 euros. The Steed 6 contains a 2.4-liter gasoline engine with 122 hp from Mitsubishi license, which can be combined with a gas system.

At the end of April 2017, the Wey VV7, the first vehicle from the new Wey SUV brand, hit the Chinese market.

The fully electric Ora R1 city vehicle has been sold in China for around 7600 euros (after funding) since December 2018. The range with a 33 kWh battery should be 310 km. The drive is locked to 100 km / h at 35 kW (50 PS). The guarantees are 3 years for the car and 8 years for core components.

On January 17, 2020, GWM and General Motors announced the sale of GM's Talegaon, India, factory to Great Wall. Subject to the necessary approvals, the transition should take place in the second half of 2020. After the sale of its other factory in India to the Chinese joint venture partner SAIC and the withdrawal from the Indian market in Talegaon, GM had only produced for export. Great Wall wants to produce in Talegaon for the Indian market.
