Qoros (actually Qoros Auto Co. Ltd. , Chinese  觀 致 汽車 有限公司 ) is a Chinese automobile manufacturer .

Company history

The company was founded in December 2007 as a joint venture between the Israeli conglomerate Israel Corporation and the Chinese automobile manufacturer Chery Automobile under the name Chery Quantum Automotive Corp. founded. This was only in November 2011 in Qoros Auto Co. Ltd. changed.

The company has locations in Shanghai and Changshu in east China's Jiangsu Province , where a new plant with a capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year, a third of the planned maximum, has been built.

For the domestic market, the vehicles are sold under the brand name Guan Zhi , which literally means learning and perfection . The Model 3 has been available on the Chinese market since December 2013. The brand name Qoros was chosen for export , which is derived from the Greek word khoros , in English chorus , and is intended to stand for the multinational character of the company and the quality of the vehicles.

In 2014, Qoros sold almost 7,000 vehicles on the Chinese market, which corresponds to a market share of around 0.3%. The sales figures have thus remained well below expectations and capacities of 150,000 units.

In the following year, 2015, the brand was able to double its sales to 14,000 vehicles, but the production capacity is still not nearly fully utilized.

With around 24,000 vehicles, sales increased significantly again in 2016, despite everything this is only a fraction of the possible capacity.

The two shareholders Chery and Kenon Holdings tried to sell their shares in 2017, but these attempts failed because no interested party could be found. One reason for this was that Qoros had amassed a loss of around one billion euros by 2016. In January, both shareholders had made € 72 million available for the development of electric cars. Another important reason for the owners' loss of interest in Qoros is the slump in sales in the first seven months of 2017, as around 40% fewer cars were sold than in the already weak previous year. This continued over the course of the year and as of October 2017 it was 44% or around 8,000 vehicles less than in the previous year.
