Rongcheng Hawtai Automobile Co., Ltd. is a Chinese automobile manufacturer and vehicle importer. The brand name is Hawtai .

history

The company was founded in 2000, when the two cities of Beijing and Huatai made the decision to produce plants for the production of vehicles for South Korean automobile brands in China in local factories. The Hawtais company logo was quickly created and efforts were made to offer suitable products that were unique for the Chinese market and to acquire their licenses. With the two requirements set, the choice fell on Hyundai Motors .

After several months and numerous negotiations, Rongcheng Hawtai Automobile Co. Ltd. only to get the licenses for the production of the body components and for the import of Kia vehicles. Since the construction of the first plant in Huatai had already been completed, the production of the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Hyundai Terracan began . Motors made in China are used as motorization.

Beijing, on the other hand, had problems getting suitable halls. The only slowly weakening demand for Beijing Jeep vehicles and the anticipated establishment of Beijing DaimlerChrysler contributed significantly to this . With a constant delay, the city administration was now forced to have completely new production halls built. After a construction period of three years, production did not begin until spring 2006. Engines from Chinese production are also used in these vehicles.

In the spring of 2008, a third plant was added near the small town of Xiandai . There the models are produced under the brand name Hawtai . The main product is the Terracan, which was discontinued under Hyundai. With the new plant, however, the company's own production of the R315 , R420 , R425 and R428 engines began .

At the beginning of May 2011, the group tried to join the Swedish manufacturer Saab as a strategic partner , but had to abandon these plans just a few days later. Huatai was unable to provide the necessary permits.

In 2019 it became known that the company has high liabilities to suppliers . The automobile manufacturer is in the second trial before the Supreme People's Court in China. In addition, the official homepage is no longer accessible.
