The Hyundai Terracan (Korean: 현대 테라칸) is a passenger car model of the South Korean car manufacturer Hyundai built from the end of 2001 to autumn 2006 . It was developed by Hyundai on the basis of the Mitsubishi Pajero (V20) as a medium-sized five-door off - road vehicle and was the successor to the three-door Galloper , which was still based on the Mitsubishi Pajero (L040) .
After the Terracan one in September 2004 facelift was given, was stopped production in South Korea in October of 2006. The successor for Europe is the Hyundai ix55 SUV, available since May 2009 .
In the People's Republic of China , the Terracan under the brand name Huatai-Hyundai was built until summer 2008. As the Hawtai Terracan T9 , the model is still being built under license by Rongcheng Hawtai Automobile in Beijing .
technology
Like its predecessor, the Hyundai Terracan was built on a ladder frame . While the rear wheel suspension was designed as a rigid axle , the front wheels were individually suspended.
As motorizing there were only the front longitudinally installed in Germany, from the Kia Carnival derived 2.9-liter inline four-cylinder - diesel engine with common rail injection proper. Up to the 2004 facelift, it had an output of 110 kW (150 hp) and then 120 kW (163 hp). In other markets there was also a 2.5 liter D4BH diesel engine without a common rail system and a 3.5 liter V6 gasoline engine (G6AU) with 143 kW (194 hp). Both are modified licensed Mitsubishi engines. Instead of the smaller diesel, the Haw Tai Terracan received a 2.4-liter four-cylinder (4G64) directly from Mitsubishi.
The power was transmitted either via a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic to a transfer case with reduction . While the all-wheel drive could only be switched on rigidly in the German version , the versions for other countries optionally had an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch that automatically regulated the power distribution.
