The i20 has a hatchback and was initially only available with five doors. The three-door hatchback was introduced in April 2009 and costs € 750 less.
Both variants are 3.94 m long and 1.71 m wide. The wheelbase is 2.53 m, which means that the i20 has relatively short overhangs at the front (785 mm) and rear (630 mm). The trunk of three and five-door models has a capacity of 295 liters. It can be expanded to 1060 liters by folding down the 60:40 split rear seat.
Thanks to good pedestrian safety and standard ESP, the i20 in the latest Euro NCAP - Crash Test achieved the top rating of five stars.
Facelift
In July 2012 the i20 was revised. The front and the headlights were modified and the turn signal and reversing light units at the rear were arranged differently. It is now more like Hyundai's other types of vehicles. Hyundai also introduced a diesel engine called the 1.1 CRDi producing 55 kW (75 hp), with the 1.4 CRDi being dropped. The 1.2-liter gasoline engine has been revised and now has an output of 63 kW (86 hp).
Equipment for Germany
There are three equipment lines to choose from for the i20: Classic , Trend and Style
The Classic basic equipment is only available with the smallest gasoline engine, which cannot be combined with the highest level of Style . The 1.6 liter engines, whether diesel or Otto, are only supplied with the Style equipment variant . This explains the sometimes considerable jump in prices between the individual engines. Only one or two equipment lines can be selected for each engine.
The Classic has unpainted door handles and exterior mirrors. It is the only model with 14 "steel wheels with tire size 175/70 R 14. For all other models, 15" wheels (steel for trend , aluminum for style ) with tires of size 185/60 R 15 are standard in Germany.
The style includes the color package with colored seat covers (red or blue contrasting) and metallic or mineral effect paint as standard. Automatic air conditioning is only available for him. Externally, it stands out from the other variants with a chrome strip in the radiator grille. Inside, silver aluminum trim was used instead of black plastic.
Vehicle dynamics control (ESP) and six airbags are standard in the i20 .
Technical specifications
At the beginning were i20 for the three -line four cylinder - Otto engines between 57 kW (78 HP) and 93 kW (126 hp) and a Reihenvierzylinder- diesel engine with 85 kW (116 hp) for selection. The 1.2 liter, 82 kg light ' Kappa' engine has been newly developed and is expected to consume 5.2 liters in the i20. The consumption of the two larger ' Gamma' petrol engines with CVVT valve control is higher at 6.0 liters (1.4) and 6.1 liters of Super (1.6). The most economical i20 is the blue 1.1 CRDi with a consumption of 3.2 to 3.6 liters per 100 km.
The petrol engines are linked to a manual five-speed gearbox, and since the model update, the 1.4-liter engine has also had a six-speed gearbox. The diesel engines, on the other hand, are all combined with a six-speed gearbox. A four-speed automatic transmission is available as an option for the 1.4 and 1.6 liter gasoline engines.
The engine of the i20 is installed transversely at the front, with the gearbox next to it. The front wheels are individually suspended on MacPherson struts and triangular wishbones, and a torsion beam axle is installed at the rear . The rack and pinion steering is electrically assisted , the service brake works with hydraulically operated disc brakes on all wheels. The front brake discs are internally ventilated.

The second generation was presented at the Mondial de l'Automobil in October 2014 and launched on the market in December 2014. In 2015 she was awarded the golden steering wheel in the small car class.
The car was designed in the Hyundai development center in Rüsselsheim and, like the second generation of the i10, is manufactured in Turkey. The basic model is equipped with a 1.2 liter gasoline engine that has an output of 55 kW (75 hp) and can deliver a maximum of 122 Nm. In addition, there are two petrol engines with 62 kW (84 hp) and 74 kW (100 hp) and two diesel engines with 55 kW (75 hp) and 66 kW (90 hp), which have also been improved. This means that the 90 hp diesel engine can now deliver 240 instead of 220 Nm. A start-stop system is available for the 1.1-liter diesel engine and the 1.2-liter gasoline engine.
New for Hyundai is a turbocharged gasoline engine, a light metal construction with timing chain, in a small car. It has three cylinders, a displacement of 1.0 liters and has been available in two output levels of 74 kW (100 PS) and 88 kW (120 PS) since January 2016. The crossover version Active has also been available since January 2016 . It is only sold with the 1.0-liter gasoline engines and the more powerful diesel engine.
In February 2018, Hyundai presented a facelifted version of the i20 at the Auto Expo in New Delhi. Externally, the grille, the taillights and the position of the rear license plate have been changed. In addition to black and gray-blue, red and blue are now also available as colors in the interior. The three-door variant called “Coupé” was omitted, as were the diesel engines.
Equipment for Germany
There are four equipment lines to choose from for the i20: i20 , Classic , Trend and Style
The basic i20 is only available in white with a gray-blue interior. The door handles and mirror housings are painted black on the outside. Only the smallest engines are available: 1.2-liter petrol and 1.1-liter diesel with 55 kW each. The i20 variant is the only equipment variant that consumes less than 3.5 liters of fuel according to the standard: with the blue 1.1 CRDI engine, 3.2 liters of diesel are consumed at the standard (combined) with only 83 g of CO 2 emissions / km. The following extras are not available for this equipment variant: radio, air conditioning, alarm system, electric exterior mirrors, adjustable steering column and radio remote control.
Classic is only available with engines from 66 to 74 kW and, like the aforementioned basic equipment, not with automatic transmission. The interior is only available in gray-blue, the exterior colors are only black, blue, silver and white. Door handles and mirror housings are painted in the same color as the car, the window glass is tinted. Air conditioning (manual), radio, adjustable steering column and radio remote control are standard. Various extras cannot be ordered, such as rain sensor, parking aid, light sensor, cornering light and lane departure warning system.
The trend cannot be ordered with the smallest petrol engine (1.2 liters, 55 kW). There is no upper limit to the ordering option, all machines up to and including 88 kW are available. The automatic transmission can only be ordered for trend and style (and only together with the 1.4-liter petrol engine with 74 kW). The interior can be selected from four colors; in addition to black, blue, silver and white, there are also gray, orange, red and brown to choose from.
The Style comes with automatic air conditioning, electrically folding exterior mirrors, projection headlights and other extras as standard. The only variant of the style is a parking aid at the front and LED taillights. For a surcharge, there are only the Style extras such as a reversing camera, navigation system. Leather seats and chrome door handles.

The small car has been sold since the beginning of August 2020, with the first models to be delivered in October 2020.
The dimensions change only slightly compared to the previous model, but more space is to be offered in the interior.
