history
The name follows the new naming that began with the Hyundai i30 . Outside of Europe, the model is still partly sold under the name Tucson or Tucson ix (such as in South Korea). Sales began in March 2010 and there were a total of 10,703 new registrations in Germany in 2010.
The ix35 was presented at the IAA 2009 in Frankfurt. The ix35 has been completely redesigned and has nothing in common with its predecessor. The new shape, called fluidic sculpture by Hyundai , is also used in the Hyundai Sonata 6th generation / Hyundai i40 . Like the previous model, the ix35 is available with front or all-wheel drive, depending on the model variant.
In Germany, the ix35 is offered with five engines: the 1.6-liter direct injection engine with 99 kW (135 PS), a 120 kW (163 PS) 2.0-liter Theta II gasoline engine or a 2.0-liter Common rail diesel. The R-series diesel engine is available with 100 kW (136 hp) and 135 kW (184 hp). Since November 2010, the ix35 1.7 CRDi Blue Drive model has also been available with a 1.7 liter U-series common rail diesel with 85 kW (116 hp), a maximum torque of 260 Nm and a start-stop system Idle stop & go .
In North America, a 2.4-liter gasoline engine from the same Theta series with 131 kW (178 hp) and 228 Nm torque is also available. A 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic is available for the petrol engine. A 6-speed manual transmission for the diesel engines and a 6-speed automatic transmission for the 2.0-liter versions.
Since 2012, Hyundai produced with the ix35 FCEV (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle) a hydrogen - fuel cell vehicle based on the ix35. Hyundai specifies an output of 100 kW (136 hp) and a torque of 300 Nm. One tank of fuel contains 5.64 kg of hydrogen and should be enough for a range of almost 600 km.
In September 2013, the Hyundai ix35 received a facelift , which is characterized by redesigned headlights, LED daytime running lights and new side mirrors with LED indicators. At the same time, a new 2.0-liter gasoline engine with direct injection and an output of (122 kW) 166 hp was introduced.

In China , the international version of the ix35 was built by the Beijing-Hyundai joint venture between 2010 and 2018 . Even with the introduction of the Tucson TL , the vehicle was still available. In addition, Beijing-Hyundai has been offering another compact SUV based on the international version as an ix35 since the end of 2017. So in China two ix35s and the Tucson were sold at the same time. In November 2018, an alternative version of the Tucson replaced the international ix35. Since then, an ix35 and two Tucson have been offered. The manufacturer is pursuing a similar strategy with the Hyundai Elantra , of which three generations are being offered in parallel in China.
At Dongfeng Yueda Kia Motors , the third Kia Sportage generation, which is based on the ix35, is also being built in China in parallel to the fourth generation (there Kia KX5). In addition, from 2018, the Kia NP, an identical model to the ix35 introduced in 2017, will be sold.
