The Hyundai Coupe is a front-wheel drive - sports coupe of the Korean manufacturer Hyundai , which built by mid-1996 to 2009 sold by the end of 2011 and three generations was launched, with the last one was available in three variants.
In North America , Australia , New Zealand , South Africa and Austria the car was sold as Tiburon (the name comes from Spanish and means shark ), in the homeland of the manufacturer as Tiburon (J2), Turbulence (RD) and Tuscani (GK).
Production of the Tiburon ended in August 2009, whereas the vehicle was still available as a coupé in some markets until the end of 2011.

As a successor to the S-Coupé , Hyundai launched a Coupé (type J2 ) with a 2.0-liter engine and 102 kW (139 PS) in September 1996 . In mid-1997, a 1.6-liter version with 84 kW (114 hp) was submitted and both models were sold under the nickname Coupe FX .

Just in time for the turn of the millennium, the visual appearance was revised in autumn 1999 and the RD was created , which was the current coupé until the beginning of 2002. Particularly noticeable were the lights, which had a design similar to that of the Toyota Celica T20 or the Honda Integra .
The engine range remained unchanged in terms of displacement, the 1.6 l was not offered in the USA . In Germany the 1.6-liter engine was taken off the market. The 2.0 liter engine with 102 kW (139 PS) managed the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in approx. 9 seconds with a weight of 1160 kg, which was slightly higher than its predecessor.
In spring 2001 there were slight changes in the engine. So the older and heavier 1.6 liter Beta was replaced by the newer and lighter Alpha II. This can be seen in the lower engine output of 79 kW (107 PS). With the 2-liter unit, emissions-related adjustments led to a power reduction from 102 to 99 kW.
According to the manufacturer, over 9,000 units of the first and second generation were sold in Germany from September 1996 until the model change in February 2002.

The new Coupe (type GK ) was presented to the world public at the 59th IAA on September 11, 2001 and was a complete novelty in terms of appearance, since the new generation decided against the paneled front headlights on the one hand and the body on the other less curvy.
The car was produced in three engine versions from the beginning of 2002 (see right). The V6 variant was available with either a six-speed manual or four- speed automatic transmission .
Facelift
At the beginning of 2005 some changes were made to the design. This affects the front bumper, all headlights, the gills and the rims. Furthermore, the GK has not been sold with a 1.6-liter engine in Germany since this facelift .
In January 2007 there was another facelift for the third generation. The most significant changes are the omission of the air openings behind the fenders and the more rounded, elongated headlights.
Production of the coupe ended in August 2009. The manufacturer stated the number of average new registrations per year in Germany at 1500 units.
The ideal successor is the Genesis Coupé , which is a departure from front-wheel drive.

Furnishing
The equipment of the car varies depending on the version and market. The GLS equipment and the special models Style, Edition +, Red Edition and Cool Emotion are available in Germany.
The Tiburon GT, as the V6 variant is called abroad, is also available with additional equipment items such as automatic air conditioning or full leather seats with heated seats.

Cool Emotion special model
The edition model, limited to 100 vehicles, was based on the basic equipment with the 2.0-liter gasoline engine and 105 kW (143 hp). The interior has been upgraded with aluminum door sills and pedals as well as a footrest and a center console in aluminum look.
In addition, there were red leather sports seats with heated seats and automatic air conditioning. For the exterior, 18-inch light-alloy wheels and the Crystal White and Carbon Gray paintwork were available. With a price of 25,990 euros , the special model offered an advantage of 2,600 euros.
