General

Rear view

In April 2001 the car with the internal abbreviation FC ( Family Concept ) was presented for the first time at Auto Mobil International in Leipzig. This is a model specially developed for Europe and made in Turkey. The characteristic design with the step in the side window line comes from Pininfarina . The interior with space for five people offers a split, foldable and slidable rear bench seat, the angle of which can be adjusted. The GLS version , which is exclusively available, has four airbags as standard, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, belt tensioners and belt force limiters as well as three height-adjustable headrests at the rear. For the market launch in August 2001, two gasoline engines and from September 2001 a diesel engine were available.

At the same time as the presentation of the Matrix, Hyundai's European headquarters was opened in Eschborn , which is intended to ensure that the models are optimized for Europe, better support for importers and more efficient research and development work.

In 2003 there was a special model called 1.6 GLS Edition + , which included air conditioning, an on-board computer, central locking with remote control, 15-inch alloy wheels and a metallic paint finish as standard. The special model was around 1000 euros cheaper than a similarly equipped production model.

Facelift

2005

In autumn 2005, the Matrix was given a facelift and the body was given a new honeycomb radiator grille, a modified front apron and new rear lights. In addition, the three-cylinder diesel engine has been replaced by a four-cylinder engine with 75 kW (102 hp), with which the Matrix accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 14.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 164 km / h. Standard consumption is an average of 5.4 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers, and an open particle filter is available as a retrofit kit.

The prices in connection with the smaller diesel engine were only slightly increased compared to the original model.

2008

Another revised version of the Matrix was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.

The front design is now based on other Hyundai models such as the i10 . The air intake, radiator grille and fog lights have been changed, and the step in the side window line is now concealed by a black film. In addition, the previously uneven front wheel arches have been redesigned, the exterior mirrors have been enlarged and the protective strip on the rear bumper has been omitted. New materials and colors are used in the interior. In addition to ABS and six airbags, ESP is now part of the standard safety equipment. The gasoline engines were not changed, but the diesel now has an output of 81 kW (110 hp) and has an open particle filter system.

Furthermore, there are now the three equipment variants Classic (basic model), Comfort (medium equipment range) and Style (top model).

Production of the Matrix ended in mid-2010. Its successor was the ix20 introduced in autumn 2010.

Engines

The motor supply is sufficient for the gasoline engines of 1.6 liter 76 kW up to 1.8 liter engine with 90 kW. There is also a common rail - diesel engine with three cylinders, 1.5 liters of displacement and 60 kW, by a four-cylinder engine with 81 kW and 2005 VTG was replaced.
