The Hyundai S-Coupe is a front-wheel drive sports coupe from the Hyundai Motor Company based on the Hyundai Pony X2 and manufactured from fall 1988 to mid-1995.
Model history
After the S-Coupé was launched in Asia in early 1988, it was also exported to Germany from the summer of 1989.
Initially, it had a four-cylinder in-line engine with 1468 cc capacity and 62 kW (84 HP) at 5500 min -1 and a maximum torque of 124 Nm at 3000 min -1 . When it was launched, the S-Coupé cost a relatively inexpensive DM 23,690 and was quite lavishly equipped. Among other things, also had power steering and a glass sliding / tilting sunroof available. The car was equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission , but was also available with a 4-speed automatic transmission at an additional cost .
Facelift
In the spring of 1993 a facelift took place , which gave the S-Coupé a more modern and rounder body. It was only through this revision that the breakthrough came on the German market.
Its engine has also been completely redesigned. The now in-house design had three valves per cylinder and the displacement was increased to 1495 cm³. The engine now developed 66 kW (90 hp) at 5600 min −1 and had a maximum torque of 134 Nm at 4000 min −1 . Parallel to this was by this motor, a turbo version with 85 kW (115 hp) at 5500 min -1 and a maximum torque of 170 Nm at 4500 min -1 available, the cost of 1,700 DM charge.
In June 1996 production of the S-Coupé was stopped. Its successor was introduced in September 1996, which only bears the name Hyundai Coupé .
