AR / RA story

The Automobil Revue or Revue Automobile appeared for the first time in early 1906. The editor was Otto Richard Wagner (ORW), who had emigrated from Rottenburg am Neckar to Bern as a 21-year-old in 1897. In 1901 he founded the Wagner publishing house, and in 1912 he merged with Haller and made Hallwag (Haller / Wagner) a broad-based graphic company that was also strong in printing and reprography. With the Automobil Revue and the Revue Automobile , the publishing program focused on the broad spectrum of the automobile industry with maps and travel guides. In 1934 ORW died unexpectedly at the age of 58; his son, Otto Erich Wagner (OEW) took over the helm at the young age of 24.

In the first phase, the AR / RA appeared every two weeks in A4 format, from 1920 onwards the newspaper format and printing were used. From 1925 to 1939, the AR and the RA appeared twice a week, also during the economic crisis in the 1930s. During this time there was also a monthly or every two months - depending on the economic situation - an illustrated Automobile Revue (A4 format), which can be considered the forerunner of the very successful catalog number of the AR / RA , which was published from 1947 .
