The Hyundai Getz is a small car from the South Korean vehicle manufacturer Hyundai . It came onto the German market in September 2002 as a three- and five-door hatchback with three engines (initially only petrol engines) and also three equipment variants. In spring 2003, a 1.5-liter diesel engine known from Kia was added.

The Getz underwent a facelift in November 2005, in which the optics were modernized in the form of new light units at the front and rear as well as a slightly revised dashboard and the engines were improved.

The Getz Cross followed in late summer 2006 . This car, which is only available as a five-door model, differs from the normal model in its off-road appearance, which was achieved by slightly increasing the ground clearance and using plastic planking all around. Despite this look, the Cross, like all Getz, only has front-wheel drive. By September 2006, a total of around 47,000 new units had been registered in Germany. With these sales figures, the Getz was the bestseller in the Hyundai Deutschland GmbH model range for a long time until it was replaced by the Hyundai Tucson compact SUV .

In South Korea and a few other countries, the Getz was sold under the name Hyundai Click (현대 클릭). From 2006 to 2009 there was also a Venezuelan sister model called the Dodge Brisa . In Japan, the model was also known as the Hyundai TB , which stood for Think Basic .

Sales of the Getz in Europe were discontinued in early 2009. The model was still sold in other markets, including the home market of South Korea.

Classification in the manufacturer's model hierarchy

In the manufacturer's model range, the small Hyundai was launched as a replacement for the 25 centimeter shorter Microvan Atos and positioned under the Hyundai Accent - a compact class car.

In July 2007, the Accent was in turn joined by the larger Hyundai i30 . In view of the dimensions of some competitors such as the Opel Corsa or the Fiat Grande Punto (both measure around four meters in length), the new Hyundai Accent, which has become shorter in the new generation and is 4.04 meters long, has to large ”and the Getz can be assigned to the smaller compact cars.

After the Atos (replaced by the Hyundai i10 in March 2008 ) was no longer available from 2002 to 2004, Hyundai reintroduced it to the European market in a slightly revised form after this two-year absence, as there were many interested parties looking for a even smaller model than the Getz asked for.

At the end of 2008, Hyundai presented the series version of Getz's successor, the Hyundai i20 .

technology

Hyundai uses the modular principle at Getz, in which many technical components from several group series (including models from the sister brand Kia Motors ) are used. For example, all engines can be found in either the Hyundai Atos / i10 (1.1-l petrol), the Hyundai Accent (1.4-l petrol and 1.5-l diesel) or the Hyundai i30 (1, 6-liter gasoline engine) again.

safety

From the start of the market, the Hyundai Getz was equipped with four airbags (two front airbags and two combined side / head airbags for driver and front passenger) and ABS as standard equipment throughout Europe . After the facelift, an ESP is also available at an additional cost .

In the Euro NCAP crash test, the Hyundai Getz received 25 points for occupant protection and thus four out of five possible stars. This puts it on a par with competitors such as the Peugeot 206 or the Opel Corsa C. The small car achieved an equally impressive result in child protection, which was rated with 37 points and four out of five stars.

On the other hand, things look much worse in pedestrian protection, which with five points and one out of four stars leaves clear room for improvement. The test was carried out in 2004. However, since neither the body structure nor other safety-relevant parts were changed in the course of the facelift in autumn 2005, this result can also be transferred to this model.
