Walter Chemnitz
Walter Chemnitz (born September 10, 1901 in Rudolstadt , † October 2, 1947 in Kuibyshev , Soviet Union ) was a German politician ( KPD ).
Life
The trained bricklayer was a member of the city council of Lörrach from 1926 to 1933 . In October 1929 he was elected to the Baden state parliament. From September 1930 until the end of the Weimar Republic in March 1933 he was a member of the Reichstag .
In April 1933 he was arrested and taken to the Kislau concentration camp . After his release he left Germany. In the Spanish Civil War he fought in an international brigade until he was seriously wounded in 1938 . After his return to Germany he was arrested in the same year. After years in prison , he was deployed on the Eastern Front towards the end of the war . He died in a Soviet captivity .
