The company was founded on September 20, 1994. It is a division of the state-owned Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation.
The brand name was Songhuajiang from 1984 to 2002 and Hafei since then .
The annual production capacity in 2007 was 300,000 units.
Passenger car production ended in 2015.

Hafei vehicles under different brands
There is a collaboration with Micro Cars from Sri Lanka and Naza from Malaysia . From 2004 to 2015 there was a cooperation with the Vietnamese company Xuan Kiên Auto .
