The Guangzhou Peugeot Automobile Company Ltd. was an automobile manufacturer based in Guangzhou ( People's Republic of China ).

It was a joint venture in which the Guangzhou Auto Corporation (46%), the French car manufacturer Peugeot (22%) and other investors were involved.

history

After the agreement was signed in 1985, production began in 1987.

The company existed until 1997. Various reasons are cited for the failure: Peugeot's lack of understanding of the Chinese market, failure to meet state production targets and the heavy losses of the joint venture.

Guangzhou Auto Corporation continued production under the Tianyang brand name after Peugeot withdrew .

The plant was later taken over by Guangqi Honda Automobile .

Models

The brand name was Guangzhou-Peugeot . The Peugeot 504 (as a pick-up ) and the Peugeot 505 as a sedan and station wagon were produced . A total of around 100,000 copies were made.
